Section Chairs and Officers

The Section Chairs and Officers of the National Council on Family Relations serve a two-year term. Their primary responsibilities are:
  1. Member of the Annual Conference Committee. Attend Program Committee meetings during the Annual Conference and in the spring.

  2. Write articles for the NCFR REPORT. Refer to calendar for due dates.

  3. All Section newsletters done at NCFR must be submitted on disk in ASCII format or Microsoft Word. They may be sent via email and be transferable to website or listserv.

  4. Preside at Section Membership Business Meeting during NCFR Annual Conference and submit minutes to NCFR headquarters within 30 days after meeting, including operational budget.

  5. Submit approved Section expenses in writing and second copy of minutes of business meeting to the NCFR Finance Manager.

  6. Consult with Section Officers/Executive committees and call meetings as deemed necessary.
    1. Set up Section Sub-Committees.
    2. Monitor any Section-sponsored awards. The selection committee and criteria for selection of award winner are set by Section by-laws.

  7. Oversee any Focus Groups sponsored by the Section.
    1. The Focus Group must send the sponsoring Section Chair a list of members. (Focus Group members must be dues-paying members of the NCFR and the sponsoring Section.)
    2. If a Focus Group desires a budget, it must come from the sponsoring Section's funds. No Focus Group may set up its own budget.

  8. Section Publications

  9. Communicate with Section constituents.

  10. Submit annual reports and proposals for special projects. Due October 1st

  11. Oversees selection of Section Nominating Committee. Refer to calendar for deadlines.
    1. Nominate or elect a Section Nominating Committee according to Section By-laws.
    2. The Nominating Committee is to select two candidates for the following section offices: Chair (or Chair-elect according to Section By-laws), Vice-Chair (unless Chair-elect), Secretary/Treasurer, Student/New Professional Representative(s), other officers as determined by the Section.

  12. Annual Conference Responsibilities
    1. Reports to prepare for IRS Form 990 by February 15th
    2. Attend/Chair Sessions
      1. Program Planning Committee meeting.
      2. Section Membership Business meeting.
      3. Any appropriate committee and/or Section executive board meetings.
      4. Section Chairs Meeting.
    3. Attend Newcomers Reception.
    4. Attend NCFR Annual Business Meeting and Membership Forum.

Responsibilities of Officers - The specific offices of each Section and their related responsibilities are defined in the By-laws of each Section.
